What should we do in the first hours after a loved one dies?

If the death happened at home, call 112 first, so that the death is formally confirmed by the medical service. If the circumstances call for further checks, the police are involved as well. Once those formalities are done, contact Ritual Prim. We will tell you what happens next, send a funeral director out to you, arrange the transport of the deceased and help with the documents, the preparation and the rest of the arrangements. If the death happened in a hospital or another medical facility, some of the first steps are taken there. We will establish where the deceased is and what needs to be done next. Which documents are needed to arrange a funeral in Moldova?

The list depends on the circumstances of the death. As a rule it comes down to the death notice (avizier), the papers of the deceased and the papers of the relative or representative making the arrangements. If Ritual Prim is arranging the funeral, we first check what you already have, explain what is missing and tell you what needs to be done next. The family does not have to work out which office to go to at each stage. We lead the process and deal with the formalities: the funeral is held on the basis of the death notice, and the death certificate is obtained from the Public Services Agency (ASP) afterwards. What does a funeral in Chișinău and Moldova cost?

The cost depends on what the family chooses: the coffin, the preparation of the deceased, transport, the place of the farewell, flowers, work at the cemetery and any further services. At Ritual Prim we first ask what the family would like, then draw up a clear estimate and explain what makes up the total. You can take single services or leave the whole funeral to us. How does repatriation of the deceased from another country to Moldova work?

First we establish where the deceased is, which hospital or mortuary is responsible for releasing them and which documents that particular country requires. Ritual Prim then coordinates the paperwork, the preparation of the deceased for international transport and the dealings with the mortuary and the local authorities, and arranges the journey to Moldova. The requirements differ from country to country, so the family does not have to look for mortuaries, carriers and offices on its own. We lead the process and say what is needed at each stage. The timing depends on the country, on the paperwork and on any further procedures, such as a forensic examination or an investigation. Still have questions on this? Write to us

Can a cremation be arranged when there is no crematorium in Moldova?

Yes. If the family chooses cremation, Ritual Prim arranges it outside Moldova, including the documents, the transport of the deceased, the dealings with the crematorium and the return of the urn with the ashes. If the death happened abroad, there is another option: to hold the cremation in that country and bring the urn to Moldova afterwards. Can a funeral or a repatriation be arranged from another country?

Yes. If relatives are abroad or cannot come in person, most of the arrangements can be made at a distance. Transport, the preparation of the deceased, the funeral itself, repatriation, funeral goods, flowers and the other details can all be agreed with Ritual Prim by phone or online. We tell you in advance which documents your situation calls for.
