What to do when someone has died

If the death was sudden, happened away from home, or its cause is unclear, the steps may be different. We will tell you what to do

How the arrangements unfold

We stay with the family at every step, from the first call to the day of the farewell

  1. Your call

    We ask where the deceased is and what has already been done, and agree where and when a funeral director will meet you

  2. A funeral director comes to you

    They come wherever suits you, at any hour, check the documents, explain the steps and answer your questions

  3. Moving the deceased

    We collect them from home, from hospital or from a mortuary, keep them in our own mortuary until the ceremony, or prepare them for a farewell at home

  4. Documents

    The death notice (avizier), the burial permit and the cemetery plot; the death certificate is collected from ASP after the funeral. Wherever a relative has to be present, the funeral director goes with you

  5. Agreeing the details

    The coffin, wreaths, farewell hall, transport, church service and memorial meal. Everything you choose goes into one estimate

  6. The day of the funeral

    We bring the deceased to the place of farewell and take care of the transport, the work at the cemetery and the order of the ceremony. The funeral director is with you all day

Special circumstances When a situation needs a different approach

Someone has died abroad

If someone has died outside the Republic of Moldova, Ritual Prim arranges repatriation home or to any other place the family chooses. We take the whole process in hand: you do not need to travel anywhere or deal with anyone yourself.

We find out where the deceased is and which authority releases the body, contact the local funeral director and the consulate, and prepare the death certificate, export permit and transport documents. We arrange preparation of the body and a zinc-lined coffin to international standards, choose air or road transport, and meet your loved one at the border or the airport.

From there the same funeral director carries on: the mortuary, the farewell and the funeral in Moldova. Timing depends on the country and how quickly documents are issued, usually from a few days to two weeks; we can be more precise after the first call.

The family wants a cremation

There is no crematorium in Moldova, so cremation takes place abroad, most often in Romania or Ukraine. Ritual Prim takes on the whole process, and the family does not need to travel.

We prepare the death certificate and export permit, get the body and documents ready for the crematorium, arrange the transport and are present at the cremation. Afterwards we bring the urn home to the family in Moldova together with the official cremation certificate.

The urn can be buried in a cemetery, placed in a columbarium or kept at home; the family decides. A farewell before the cremation can be held in our hall, just as with a burial.

The police are involved

The police become involved when a death is sudden, happens away from home or its cause needs to be established. This is a routine procedure, not a suspicion that anyone is to blame.

The deceased is taken to the Centre of Forensic Medicine to establish the cause of death, and the body is not released until that is complete. The family cannot speed this up, but does not need to do anything either: we will tell you who to contact, which documents will be needed and when your loved one can be collected.

As soon as the body is released, the funeral director collects the deceased and the arrangements continue as usual. You can contact us straight away, without waiting for the investigation to end, so that everything else is ready in advance.

Ritual Prim has worked in Chișinău, Stăuceni and every district of Moldova since 2012. Our funeral directors go out around the clock, weekends and holidays included, to wherever the deceased is: at home, in hospital, in a mortuary or wherever else they are.

From the first call, your own funeral director runs the arrangements. They take care of moving the deceased, preparing the body, the death notice (avizier) and the burial permit, dealings with the cemetery and the church, preparing the grave and the order of the day of the farewell. The family only has to make decisions, not find people to carry them out.

The mortuary, farewell hall, funeral transport, embalmers and stock of funeral goods are all our own, with no middlemen, so timing and quality do not depend on contractors. We show the cost item by item before any work begins: the estimate is agreed with the family, and nothing starts without their consent.
