What to do when someone dies

If the death was sudden, happened away from home or the cause is uncertain, the steps may differ. We will tell you what to do

  1. 01 First, the ambulance and police 112 A doctor will confirm the death and the police will make a report. If the death occurs in hospital, the staff will see to this

How we arrange a funeral

We are with the family at every step, from the first call to the day of the farewell

  1. Your call

    We ask where the deceased is and what has already been done, and agree where and when a funeral director will meet you

  2. A funeral director visits

    At any hour, wherever suits you. They look through the documents, explain what happens next and answer your questions

  3. Into our care

    We collect the deceased from home, a hospital or another institution, and look after them in our own mortuary until the ceremony, or prepare them for a farewell at home

  4. Documents

    The death notice (avizier), registration with the Public Services Agency (ASP), the burial permit and the cemetery plot; we collect the death certificate from ASP after the funeral. Where a relative needs to be there in person, the funeral director goes with you

  5. Agreeing the details

    The coffin, wreaths, chapel of rest, transport, church service and memorial meal. Everything you choose is brought together in a single estimate

  6. The day of the funeral

    We bring your loved one to the place of the farewell and take care of the transport, the work at the cemetery and the running of the ceremony. Your funeral director is with you throughout the day

Special circumstances When a situation calls for a different approach

If someone dies abroad

If someone dies outside the Republic of Moldova, Ritual Prim will arrange repatriation home or to any other place the family chooses. We take charge of the entire process: you do not need to travel or deal with anyone yourself.

We find out where the deceased is and which institution will release them, contact the local funeral director and the consulate, and arrange the death certificate, the permit to take the deceased out of the country and the transport documents. We have your loved one prepared and placed in a zinc-lined coffin that meets international requirements, choose between air and road transport, and meet them at the border or the airport.

From there, the same funeral director carries on: the mortuary, the farewell and the funeral in Moldova. How long it takes depends on the country and how quickly the documents are issued, usually anything from a few days to two weeks. We can give you a clearer idea after your first call.

If the family chooses cremation

There is no crematorium in Moldova, so cremation takes place abroad, most often in Romania or Ukraine. Ritual Prim takes care of the whole process, and the family does not need to travel anywhere.

We obtain the death certificate and the permit to take the deceased out of the country, prepare your loved one and the paperwork for the crematorium, arrange the transport and are present at the cremation. Afterwards we bring the urn with the ashes back to the family in Moldova, together with the official cremation certificate.

The urn can be buried in a cemetery, placed in a columbarium or kept at home; the choice is the family's. A farewell before the cremation can be held in our chapel of rest, just as for a burial.

If the police are involved

The police become involved when a death is sudden, happens away from home or its cause needs to be established. This is a routine procedure and does not mean anyone is suspected of wrongdoing.

The deceased is taken to the Centre of Forensic Medicine so that the cause of death can be established, and the body is not released until the process is complete. The family cannot speed things up, but there is nothing you need to do either: we will tell you whom to contact, which documents will be needed and when your loved one can be brought into our care.

As soon as the body is released, your funeral director collects the deceased and the arrangements continue as usual. You can contact us straight away, without waiting for the investigation to finish, so that everything else is ready in advance.

Ritual Prim serves Chișinău, Stăuceni and every district of Moldova. Our funeral directors are available around the clock, weekends and public holidays included, and will come wherever the deceased is: at home, in hospital, in a mortuary or at any other institution.

From the first call, your own funeral director takes charge of the arrangements. They see to bringing the deceased into our care, preparing them, the death notice (avizier) and the burial permit, arrangements with the cemetery and the church, preparing the grave and the running of the day itself. The family is left to make the decisions, not to search for people to carry them out.

Our mortuary, chapel of rest, funeral vehicles, embalmers and warehouse of funeral supplies are all our own, with no middlemen, so timing and quality never depend on outside contractors. We set out the cost item by item before any work begins: the estimate is agreed with the family, and nothing goes ahead without their consent.
